The Lynbrook Instrumental Music Program performs at elite skill levels, and we expect our students' visual presentation to match the caliber of their musicianship. The following attire is required for EVERY performance unless otherwise specified by the Director.
Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra & String Orchestra
To present our top ensembles in a light that matches their top tier caliber, students in these groups are required to wear Department-Issued Formalwear.
Option A (Tuxedo)
- Department-issued black tuxedo jacket and pants.
- Department-issued white tuxedo shirt and black bow tie.
- Solid black dress shoes and solid black calf-high socks.
Option B (Gown)
- Department-issued black dress OR black pants/top combo.
- Solid black dress shoes.
- Strictly no colors.
Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band students must provide their own formal black-and-white attire.
Option A (Suit & Tie)
- Solid black suit coat and black dress pants.
- Pure white button-down, collared long-sleeve shirt.
- Long black tie.
- Solid black dress shoes and solid black calf-high socks.
Option B (All Black Formal)
- Black dress blouse.
- Black pants, long black skirt, or long black dress.
- Solid black dress shoes.
Concert Band
Concert Band students must provide their own all-black performance attire.
Option A (All Black)
- Black button-down, collared long-sleeve shirt.
- Black undershirt (no tie required).
- Black dress pants.
- Solid black dress shoes and solid black calf-high socks.
Option B (All Black Formal)
- Black dress blouse.
- Black pants, long black skirt, or long black dress.
- Solid black dress shoes.
Universal Concert Rules (All Groups)
- No sneakers, no jeans, and absolutely no colors.
- Skirts and dresses must reach past the knees when the student is seated.
- No excessive jewelry.
Marching Band
The Marching Band has two distinct sets of attire: Rehearsal Attire for practices, and the Field Uniform for competitions and football games.
Field Uniforms
The outer uniform (jacket, bibber pants, and shako hat) is provided by LIMB and maintained by our uniform volunteer team. However, students are required to purchase and maintain their own "Under-Uniform" gear:
- Solid white, athletic-style t-shirt
- Black compression shorts (worn under the bibbers for quick changing in public areas).
- Black marching shoes and long black socks.
Rehearsal Attire
- Solid white, athletic-style t-shirt (mandatory for visual block tracking).
- Athletic shorts or track pants (no jeans).
- Lace-up athletic running shoes with proper arch support (Vans, Converse, and sandals are strictly prohibited on the field).
- A 1-gallon water jug and a hat/visor.
Garment Care & Grooming Guidelines
Concert attire must be kept in perfect condition on concert days. Please adhere to the following maintenance and personal grooming expectations:
Warning: Do Not Leave Attire in Cars
Between performances, never keep your attire inside a vehicle. The fabric will absorb odors and may develop mold. Always hang your shirt, dress, pants, and jacket on a hanger to air them out and prevent wrinkles.
Changing & Personal Grooming
- Undergarments: For hygienic reasons, underwear is mandatory at all times. Wearing athletic undergarments (like compression shorts) is highly recommended, as students often need to change in and out of their attire quickly on performance days.
- Hair & Face: Hair must be well-groomed and kept completely out of the student's face. Long hair should be pinned up so the coat collar remains visible. Male students must be clean-shaven.
- Accessories: No makeup, no jewelry, no hair ornaments, no colored nail polish, and no earrings are permitted in uniform.
Event Day Protocol
- Keep your performance shoes clean and polished.
- Keep your black socks washed and ready for the next performance.
- Please use extreme caution when eating or drinking while in your attire.
- Ensure your name is written on the inside of your shoes (not visible on the outside).
